Spring 2022 UK Market Report

Materials

BEIS’s ‘All Work’ Construction Material Price Index, had started to steady at the end of last year and the beginning of 2022. However, significant cost escalation has been seen as a consequence of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The index rose by five percent in the month to March 2022. Increased energy costs impact the production of materials. Availability of materials is an issue along with increasing raw materials costs.

Some 89 percent of respondents said that steel is the most impacted material. Russia and Ukraine are important suppliers of metal ores and products and were among the key suppliers in Europe.
